Project Swipe
We are back from Tech Circus!

swipe
We hit the convention floor of Tech Circus with a driver's license scanner and a laptop allowing people to see their very own data-self as encoded on the backside of their driver's license. We also distributed stickers to place over ID barcodes or magnetic strips that say catchy things like "I stop shopping when you start swiping" or "Get your paws off my databody!"

More info coming soon...

GET SLEEPY WITH A CPU
Written for Rhizome

The computer is commonly perceived as a tool for work, but Krista Connerly and Thomas Feulmer purpose its usefulness as a sleep aid. They have posted a rather large (17 MB) sound file online and ask users to make themselves comfortable as it downloads. Instead of the usual 'loading...please wait' message during download, Connerly and Feulmer instruct you to throw networked productivity and activity to the wind, get comfortable, and sleep. Treat computers as the furniture they are, and choose a friendly one to curl up with. --Brooke Singer

GROUNDS FOR NO THEME PARK
Written for Rhizome

With the year anniversary of 9-11 approaching, the topic of memorializing is once again a lively one. One man, living two blocks south of what used to be the World Trade Center, has turned to the web to voice his opinion on this topic. After seeing his neighborhood turn into a tourist trap with 'gawking suburbanites' taking snapshots, and 'crass opportunists' hawking quickly churned-out souvenirs, Todd Hulin responds with 'Twin Towers over Ground Zero,' America's number one theme park. Todd, of woodenteeth.com, is not new to parody, and this site reminds how memorializing can go so very wrong. --Brooke Singer

A Diesel-Friendly Web Gallery
Written for Rhizome

Diesel--the clothing company for successful living and expensive jeans--has entered the scene as art patron. In the company's words, "Diesel is sponsoring artistic behavior." Regardless of the driving motivation or how Diesel titles commissioned projects, "Friendship Gallery" is well worth perusing. The gallery has a collection of illustrations, animations, and interactive pieces by various artists and designers. Insert Silence has created a fanciful animation narrated by children. Joshua Davis in collaboration with Shapeshifter produced an ephemeral audio-visual treat. There are a total of 17 projects available for viewing to evoke (again in Diesel's words) positive emotional experiences. --Brooke Singer
